빛,  웅장한 울림부터 따뜻한 위로까지

본 전시는 오랜 기간 전통 안료인 분채와 석채를 활용해 독자적인 적층(積層) 기법을 구축해 온 이계길의 신작들을 선보인다. 기존의 시각적 재현으로서의 '빛'을 넘어, 화폭 위에 겹겹이 쌓아 올린 안료의 밀도와 질감을 통해 빛이 지닌 시각적 이미지를 청각적 공간감(소리와 울림)으로 확장하고자 한다. 어둠을 뚫고 퍼져 나가는 빛의 파동을 웅장한 내면의 울림으로 시각화하며, 혼란한 동시대를 살아가는 관람객들에게 단순한 감상을 넘어 마음 깊은 곳을 울리는 따뜻한 위로와 사색의 공간을 선사한다. 전통 채색화의 맥을 이으면서도 현대적 조형 언어로 재해석된 빛의 변주를 만나볼 수 있는 전시이다.

자연의 표정에 담긴 삶의 기록

이계길 화백은 끊임없이 변화하는 자연의 풍경 속에서 신의 섭리를 발견하고 자신의 삶과 예술을 투영해 왔다. 늘 같은 자리에 있는 듯하지만 시시각각 다른 표정을 보여주는 자연은 작가의 주요한 창작 원천이 되었으며, 화면에 담긴 풍경들은 자연에 대한 기록이자 작가 자신의 내면을 비추는 흔적이 된다.

빛의 울림으로 확장된 조형 언어

대학 시절 주변 풍경을 담아낸 채색화에서 출발한 그의 작업은 종교적 성찰을 거쳐 빛의 리듬과 울림을 탐구하는 조형 세계로 확장됐다. 자연과 신앙 안에서 얻은 깊은 사유는 촛불의 미세한 흔들림에서 시작해 ‘빛의 선율’이라는 독창적인 조형 언어로 승화된다.

색채와 형상에 대한 꾸준한 탐구가 응축된 작품들은 변화와 생성의 순간들을 담아내며, 자연과 인간, 그리고 존재에 대한 작가의 사유를 드러낸다. 《빛의 소리와 울림》은 빛과 색채가 만들어내는 울림 속에서 삶과 신앙, 자연의 의미를 되새겨보는 자리가 될 것이다.

The Sound and Resonance of Light

This exhibition presents new works by Lee Kye Kil, an artist who has devoted decades to developing a distinctive technique of layered painting using Bunchae(finely ground mineral pigments) and Seokchae(coarsely ground mineral pigments), two Korean traditional materials that have long been central to Korean painting.

Moving beyond the conventional depiction of light as a visual phenomenon, Lee transforms the accumulated density and texture of meticulously layered pigments into a sensory experience that extends from sight to sound. Through this process, the visual presence of light evokes a profound sense of resonance and spatial depth, suggesting echoes that reverberate beyond the picture plane.

The artist visualizes waves of light emerging from darkness as monumental inner reverberations, inviting viewers to experience not merely an aesthetic encounter but a quiet space for contemplation and emotional renewal. In a time marked by uncertainty and constant change, these works offer a gentle solace that reaches beyond the visible, touching something deeply human.

Rooted in the enduring tradition of Korean "Chaesaekhwa" (traditional polychrome painting) while reinterpreting its visual language through a contemporary sensibility, this exhibition reveals a rich spectrum of variations on the theme of light, where tradition and innovation converge in luminous harmony.
